[Jesus] sat down at the right hand of God,
from then on awaiting until his enemies should be placed
as a stool for his feet.

    —Heb. 10:12, 13.

After his resurrection, Jesus received authority in heaven and on earth.
(Matt. 28:18) He uses that authority to accomplish Jehovah’s purpose according to the timetable God has set. Jesus patiently waited at God’s right hand until 1914 for his enemies to be placed as a stool for his feet. (Ps. 110:1, 2)

He soon will go into action to bring an end to Satan’s system. Meanwhile, Jesus patiently works with people and leads them to
“waters of life.†(Rev. 7:17) Do you see in Jesus’ example the way you should view Jehovah’s timetable?

Jesus was no doubt eager to do whatever his Father asked of him; still, he was willing to wait for God’s time. As we await the end of Satan’s wicked system, we all need godly patience, never running ahead of God or giving up
    because we are discouraged.

  2. Hi All:

There is that reference to Jesus "feet" again. What or who are we talking about when Jesus "feet" are mentioned in the Bible. Jesus is now a life giving spirit, therefore he does not have "feet" in the conventional sense of the word, so what is truly meant when "feet" are mentioned in scripture when referring to Jesus? I have already given my view, what about you? Anyone? Or is it just referring to Jesus "literal" feet? What has Jesus "feet" got to do with 1914? Anything?

    Hi Frank

I was waiting for the spiritual "heavies" to go first. (I do that with some threads - I sit back and I wait to see what the smarter posters are gonna write.) :D

I'm writing this off the top of my head so I'm sorry if I am "missing the mark."

Regarding the point about Jesus' feet and the enemies being his footstool - would it be possible that this is some kind of symbolism? That Jesus' enemies are forced to be in subjection to his authority. That the enemies are forced to acknowledge this authority. Just guessing here.

  4. Hi Wallflower:

It is indeed a symbolism. Exactly what that symbolism is is up for interpretation. Since interpretations belong to the Father, it is imperative that we see it from his perspective. I have expressed my view on other scriptures that mention Jesus feet in a way that lead me to believe he was being symbolic, but I was hoping someone else would venture a try. There are those on this board who are certainly capable of doing so, if they would only try. First though, they must shake off the Watchtower interpretation from their thinking, which just does not hold up to even the slightest scrutiny.

Other than the date, it seems the WT is correct, again - the feet are symbolic of Jesus authority over his enemies when he returns to conquer Satan's system.

When you stand on top of something you have authority over it. So Jesus enemies will be a 'stool' for his feet, in other words, he will rule over them and have complete authority.

Interesting that Jesus feet are "like bronze glowing in a furnace" Rev 1:15a, which could mean a hardening of strength and/or boldness upon his return.

  6. Hi SingleCell:

You have convinced me that you are squarely in the prison hole of the Watchtower, spiritually speaking that is. You seem unable to see any viewpoint that is not Watchtower. That comes from years and years of brain washing and fear. Fear not my brother. Pray on it and give it another try. I don't think I can remember one area or scripture in the Bible that equates feet with power or authority.

Fair enough indeed! I am a supporter of the basics of the WTBS, I find their research / framework quite insightful actually (1914 aside), but maybe it's fundamentally incorrect, I'm open to that as well.

What are your thoughts about the feet / footstool / Christ's subjection of God's enemies? Do the feet over the enemies represent something other than his authority over them (a 'trampling')?

Either way, I sincerely look forward to answers to these amazing mysteries!

Interpretations and prophecy aren't my strong points.....but I don't mind throwing a few random ideas and thoughts around for consideration ("throwing some cards on the table.")

Today I was thinking about this and I looked at Joshua 10:24 (where Joshua and the Israelites had defeated 5 kings. Joshua told the Israelites to "place their feet on the back of the necks of the kings.")

Am I right in thinking that this was a custom of the Orientals, that they placed a foot on the body of any prisoners? My memory is hazy on that one, but I thought I read it some place back in my high school days.

But that is a physical event, not a symbolic one. And the scripture isn't talking about Jesus.

I also was looking at Ephesians 1:20-23 - where Jesus is spoken of as being raised from the dead, seated at Jehovah's right hand and that he is above government, authority, etc.

Verses 22, 23 mention how Jehovah "subjected all things under his feet, and made him head over all things to the congregation, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills up all things in all."

I wanted to read some more information on the internet, so I "googled" about meaning of feet in the Bible, also about the meaning of Jesus' feet and how they are represented (lots of sites about Jesus washing the disciples' feet) and Psalms 110:2. Lots of information and of course, I didn't have the time today to read it all - but I'm working my way through. If I find anything that is relevant to this topic, I'll post it.

At the moment, I'm just reading through and simply posting some random thoughts.
