Dear all, I asked this week-end an elder of my congregation about the new arrangements directly decided by the GB which I heard of in relation with the concrete help that the congregations should decide and implement in behalf of the elderly. I was working on the evenings during which the talks were given so I had to ask a brother before broaching that subject with you. The theme of the talks was that some elderly b/s feel left in the lurch (that's what the brother told me, not sure it was explained this way during the talks...) so a big emphasis is put on helping them in their daily problems, in case of possible administrative issues but above all regarding spiritual aspects. Effectively, more attention should also be paid regarding conforting spiritual and social company by their sides, and all the more so in retirement homes, wherein they may feel and actually be more vulnerable. I'm glad that such a decision was taken. Although it should have been decided decades ago, it's good news anyway. Remains to be seen how it's going to be implemented in concrete ways in the local congregations and how long it's going to last before the local b/s think again that hours in the preaching work are more important than a supposedly unproductive presence at the elderly's homes... Did similar talks, provisions and developments take place where you live ?
