Hi,

I just wanted to check if there are other people who also have a strange feeling when seeing all the JW.org logo's on flags, buildings etc.
This morning I was watching the video on tv.jw.org about the convention in Malta.
I saw several big JW.org flags, like the one on the photo here:



I don't know why exactly but it doesn't feel right to me.
I don't see anything wrong in small pieces eg to pin on your shirt or so to identify yourself as JW.

Any other opinion?

Oh , Barry , after all the anti "flag waving" articles in the WT , I suspect that
since they consider the "WTBTS" to be a new nation under God , they should
have their own national flag , certainly looks like that here ..get pinned and
wave your flag ...things that make ya go "hummmmmmmmmm"

Yes I think the same when I go to the Hall. At the same time, I can still recall from memory, an occasion when a brother corrected me because I used the phrase "JW" instead of "Jehovah's Witnesses."

 

lol Maybe that that brother had nothing else to do in life....

As for the flag, I don't mind about it. What kinda bothers me most is the content of the videos you talk about. I think that they push the GB members forward a bit too much to my taste.

 

Uh I pledge aligence to the flag of the jw.org watchtower society and to the theocracy for which it stands one people united by Jesus christ with lots of meetings and endless literature for all!

 

Indeed.
For long time we had basically no idea who the GB was. Now they are put more on the spotlight.

What is also bothering to me is the continuous repeating of who the faithful slave is. Almost every meeting is mentioned that it is a small group of anointed brothers...

 

The only problem is that they have been fulfilling the roles of the Evil Slave and Wicked and Sluggish Slave for some time now. They may as well use the correct terminology.

That's very true. I really appreciate seeing how brothers and sisters do so much effort to reach people in remote or difficult area's. Compared to this we have a very easy life at this time.
You can read about this in the yearbook, but seeing is a complete different experience.
I also like at the end of most programs the greetings of a congregation in some part of the world.
The July episode showed a Thai congregation. Since my wife is Thai and not a witness, these parts are really helpful, to just show her without having to say much. But it makes an impression for her.

 

Now I want to add a word we know the organization has its qirks as do we all but what's undeniable is that this organization calls attention to worship Jehovah and obey Christ Jesus more than any group on earth!

So I'm not going to bash them! They work darn hard and I will let Jehovah do the correcting

(Rev 2) The apostle Paul also wrote to Titus about those in Crete. “A certain one of them, their own prophet, said: ‘Cretans are always liars, injurious wild beasts, idle gluttons.’ This witness is true. For this very reason, keep on reproving them with severity so that they may be healthy in the faith, paying no attention to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn away from the truth. All things are clean to clean people; but to those who are defiled and faithless, nothing is clean, for both their minds and their consciences are defiled. They publicly declare that they know God, but they disown him by their works, because they are detestable and disobedient and not approved for good work of any sort.” ( Titus 1:12-16 NWT)

We must also remember what Paul said to the Corinthians, and not follow men. (1 Cor 1:13-17)

I don't get to see each and every one (only got so much data available on my internet plan) but I do watch some of them.

 

In my congregation they have scheduled each month a Saturday afternoon to watch the broadcast on the big screen in the meeting hall.
This is mostly for those who cannot watch at home or the elderly who don't know how to use Internet.

When I was a student at the university, I was told once that there are bad and good teachers therein and that we must therefore savour to the full the teaching of the good teachers and make do with the teaching of the lousy ones. No matter how much we dislike them, we can't afford avoiding their classes so we must make do with what they teach and how they teach it.

One of them was a 50 yo spinster (kind of like below) and her lessons (about English grammar) were incredibly messy and going right, left and center at the same time... It was a tall order to follow her lessons and many students would give up. I realized that in fact she was a very erudite person* and that she had plenty of thoughts and ideas coming and going in her mind and she would let everything go out as the course went on. Once I considered her lessons from another angle, I tried and put the pieces of the puzzle in her mind into place in mine and after a while, I started enjoying them because she had a lot of knowledge to teach us, although she just wasn't good at teaching it.

What I'm trying to say is that there is always something interesting to keep in mind out of all the boring stuff we may have to put up with during talks, the WT study during the meetings or else. For example, I generally dislike the conventions because the teaching is mostly a behavioral one, which I hate, but I really enjoyed the part dedicated to the book of Job during the last summer conventions. Of course, I keep grousing when I hear really boring or stupid comments from the platform....



* She is the one who taught me that the etymology of the word "Lord" is "loaf keeper", among many other things.
