I need some help from our British mates. I was recently given these photos from a deceased former U.S. Air Force Colonel. He was stationed in England for a time. I don’t know when he was there. It could have been during WWII or shortly after. The photos are black and white, of different sizes. On the back is written the following: 1. Small 4.13 x 4.13 cm “Guard at white hall palace ?†2. Small 7.30 x 5.08 cm “Thames river with unknown building.†View attachment 40 View attachment 41 Can anyone help identify these for correctness? Hi Tsaphah The first picture is Horse Guards Parade. There is the Whitehall side of the building where this picture is taken, and there is the opposite end, Horse Guards Road. The second looks like the County Hall building, which now has the London Dungeons inside, the London Aquarium and other businesses. The London Eye is also now outside it on the river side. Londoner
Thanks much Londoner. This was a big help. Now..., I have another that I could not upload because I had a ? mark in the title. This one has Westminister Abbey? written on the back. I think it is but, it is from an angle that I'm not sure of. View attachment 43 Tsaphah
Hi Tsaphah If it says Westminster Abbey, then it may be. Like you, I am not familiar with that angle. I work in Westminister and usually view the building from the front entrance and the side entrance where the tourists enter. A virtual tour of the building from the website might shed some light! Hi Londoner, It definitely is not Westminster. I went all round it, and the building connecting to the tower, and the tower is different. I'm still searching. This may not even be in London. Thanks for your help.
