Sunday, March 21 Children are an inheritance from Jehovah. —Ps. 127:3, ftn. A child requires and deserves considerable time and energy from each parent. So if a couple have a number of children who are close in age, the parents may find it challenging to give each child the needed attention. Some couples who had a number of young children confessed that they felt overwhelmed. A mother may struggle with feeling drained physically and emotionally. Could that have an impact on her being able to study, pray, and share in the ministry regularly? A related challenge is being able to pay attention during Christian meetings and to benefit from them. Of course, a loving husband will do what he can to support his wife when their children need attention, both at meetings and at home. For example, he could help his wife with household chores. He will work hard to ensure that all benefit from a regular Family Worship program. And Christian fathers will regularly accompany the family in field service. w19.12 24 ¶8
Children are an inheritance from Jehovah. A common parlance, possibly derived from a different translation is 'Children are lent to us from God'. To similar effect. The case is clear either way in what we are seeing here. This commentary is 'giving itself up' like a criminal cornered by the police in an alley way "Come out with your hands up!" this commentary is like a criminal giving themselves up to the police. This commentary is a fully signed confession. How so ? Notice that the scripture in (and any interpretation of it) expresses the precious value of children. Yet the entire tone of the commentary is of what a woesome burden children are. Is that how you treat an inheritance from Jehovah ? Even where the commentary indicates children are deserving of attention it is under the auspices of how the 'deserved attention' burdens, detracts or otherwise consumes time, effort and resources from the recievers of this inheritance. It whatever way children require effort what is that to do with the identified scripture ? 'Parents are challenged and overwhelmed by an Inheritance from Jehovah.' 'A mother may be physically and emotionally drained, distracted by an inheritance from Jehovah' 'A loving father will do what he can to mitigate the negative effects of an igheritance from Jehovah.' Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction. The prophesy from Malachi is a denouncement of the spirit in which the Bethel commentator is writing. The sympathetic tone of the daily text is similar to the sympathy expressed by the former cherub of Eden. toward Adam & Eve concerning the sad news that they would die partaking from certain fruits. It is a sympathy that is directly out of kilter with the words that are being related to it by Jehovah. So called 'Governing Body' member, Stephen Lett has been identified as an influencial speaker who has taken a strange unneccesary derisive tone when speaking of children. His niece has spoken about it. When there is want of knowlege, understanding and wisdom these may be the resulting effects. How often we read about the 'want or lack of knowlege' in scripture. Especially for a group on a timetable to produce information. When Christ describe the calamity of the pregnant woman in the day of disaster do we assume this was meant to slowly progress to the derision of culpability for the unborn babe or child ? In 'the thinking of men' this may seem a logical progression. There are certainly some things Jehovah issues which a person would be at a disadvantage recieving. Children are not what first comes to mind.
