Wednesday, December 11

His heart did not prove to be complete with Jehovah. —1 Ki. 11:4.

Will we let Solomon’s course be a warning example for us? (1 Ki. 11:1-6) A sister might attempt
to rationalize forming a romantic link that ignores God’s directive to marry “only in the Lord.â€￾
(1 Cor. 7:39)

With similar rationalizing,
one might share in extracurricular sports or clubs at school, underreport taxable
income, or tell untruths when asked to reveal actions that could be embarrassing. The point is, Solomon
must have used imperfect
reasoning to get around what God commanded, and that same danger exists for us.

Solomon
had ignored God’s instructions, yet there is no indication that Jehovah quickly rejected him as
king or strongly disciplined him. The Bible even relates that God granted his request for wisdom,
and He also added riches. (1Ki. 3:10-13) That accords with the fact that God realizes that we are imperfect
humans, made from dust. (Ps. 103:10, 13, 14)

Remember
though: Our actions can have consequences now or perhaps down the line.

There is a chronological problem in the comments for today. In 1 Kings chapter 3, Jehovah granted Solomon's request for wisdom. It is not until chapter 11, that Solomon has been led astray because he married many foreign wives (700 wives and 300 concubines.) Chapter 3 would come before Chapter 11, would it not?

Solomon may not have been disciplined right away, but further on in chapter 11, verses 11-13 the Scripture says that he would lose most of the kingdom. The kingdom was to be taken from his son. Solomon's behaviour did have consequences.

The same remark could be made about the Society when it agreed to be an NGO for the UN.

3. Hi Wallflower:

I was thinking the same thing about the daily text, but I have beat that horse so many times I thought I'd refrain this time. Thanks for mentioning it for me.

...that ignores God’s directive to marry “only in the Lord.â€￾

No comment....

excepted this one...:

The corruption of the best engenders the worst

At least, you know what to expect from the people of this world. That's also why it is so hurtful when attacks come from within the congregation, because it comes from whence it is the most unlikely ever... in our opinion. At least, from people of this world, you know right from the start that the sword of Damocles is a real thing...
