The beginning of the "world", when was it?

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by francis son of charles, Mar 6, 2015.

  1. Hi All:

When did the "world" begin? When Adam & Eve were "created" or when they sinned, or when they were kicked out of "the garden"?

It is an important question in regards to the 40 years from 1975 article mentioned by Gabrial.

Wow, Frank, youre always asking the really juicy DEEEEEEEP Questions. Man...this one got me thinking. In the Bible "The World" usually refers to the world of mankind, right? Adam and Eve did not constitute the ENTIRE WORLD. This can only apply to their offspring AFTER adam and his companion were evicted from the garden and began to procreate. Am I close?

If I can piggy back off your question....Was there free access to heaven and earth before the two sinned?

Hows it going Big Bro/Sis. I speaking of the invisible realm freely accessing the visible. From what I can gather at present, current access from the invisible realm to the physical seems to be through the "black market" (Demonic tools) But reading the book of genesis it appears to me that there were no bars that prevented Spirits from communicating with the physical realm. This is also evident through the Enocian manuscripts as well as the Hebrew Scrips that speak of many within the spirit realm (Watchers) coming down and freely interacting with mortals.

The once open gates that gave the spirit realm unlimited access to earth seemed to have been locked after the flood and only the Angles who were Sanctioned by Jehovah to come down and materialize for a certain purpose were permitted to do so.

    Hi Francis,
It all depends on what is meant by the term “worldâ€￾. There are 5 different Hebrew words that are translated into English as “worldâ€￾. In Greek there are 6 different words that are translated into English as “worldâ€￾. They are used in different ways to whether it refers to the earth, dirt, land, ground, or the people occupying the land, and a particular country such as Greece, Israel, Egypt, or Assyria.

From your question, I would have to say that it was from the time Jehovah started creating. I base this on the scripture at Rom 1:20. “For since the creation of the world [kosmos] His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.â€￾ The word used here for world is kosmos which has the meaning of:
    • an apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government
    • ornament, decoration, adornment, i.e. the arrangement of the stars, 'the heavenly hosts', as the ornament of the heavens. 1 Pet. 3:
    • the world, the universe
    • the circle of the earth, the earth
    • the inhabitants of the earth, men, the human family
    • the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ
    • world affairs, the aggregate of things earthly
    • the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages, pleasures, etc, which although hollow and frail and fleeting, stir desire, seduce from God and are obstacles to the cause of Christ.

We must take into account the context of the subject being spoken of, such is the use of the Greek word aion, which is translated several different ways, such as; “. . .and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age [aion] to come,â€￾ (Heb 6:5) “For it is witnessed of him, “You are a priest forever, [aion] after the order of Melchizedek.â€￾ (Heb. 7:17), which is a quotation from Ps. 110:4, “Jehovah has sworn and will not repent: You are a priest forever [`owlam] according to the order of Melchizedek.â€￾ “And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world [aion] and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.â€￾ (Mt 13:22) “As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age [aion] ?â€￾ “And do not be conformed to this world [aion], but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.â€￾

If we look at several other Hebrew words, we get; “The earth is Jehovah’s, and the fullness of it; the world [tebel], and those who live in it.â€￾ (Ps 24:1) This refers to the “inhabited earthâ€￾, the population of mankind.

Going back to Romans 1:20, and the word kosmos, speaks of “things madeâ€￾, which include everything that was created. Even all spirit creatures. An interesting concept is given in a book titled “The Four Agreementsâ€￾. This is supposedly from the ancient Toltecs.

“Life is the force of the absolute, the supreme, the Creator who creates everything. This is what he discovered: Everything in existence is a manifestation of the one living being we call God. Everything is God. And he came to the conclusion that human perception is merely light perceiving light. He also saw that matter is a mirror — everything is a mirror that reflects light and creates images of that light — and the world of illusion, the Dream, is just like smoke which doesn’t allow us to see what we really are. ‘The real us is pure love, pure light,’ he said.â€￾

  6. Hi Tsaphah:

    When did the "world" begin?

And all those who dwell on the earth will worship it. From the founding of the world, not one of their names has been written in the scroll of life+ of the Lamb who was slaughtered.+ Revelation 13:8

    When was "the world" founded?

This expression "founding of the world" may mean many different things.

Mat. 13:35 is a quotation from the LXX.

    Please compare :

    Mat 13:35 - NIV
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.

    Ps 78:2 - NIV
I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old

    Ps 78:2 - CJB
I will speak to you in parables
and explain mysteries from days of old.

If you look up that verse in the Kingdom Interlinear Version and in the Emphatic Diaglott, the Greek part for "of the world" doesn't exist or is between brackets. Moreover, it's the word "beginning" or "founding" that is used. As already said above, Mat. 13:35 is a quotation from the LXX:

LXX I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter dark sayings [which have been] from the beginning.

==> ἀνοίξω ἐν παραβολαῖς τὸ στόμα μου, φθέγξομαι προβλήματα ἀπ᾿ ἀρχῆς.

    Please, compare with here.

In Heb. 4:3, it means the creation of the world, which is the most logical interpretation, given the context. Interestingly, that's the main interpretation given by scholars in biblical encyclopedias.

Personally, I think that the WT is right when they say that the founding of the world may mean at times the moment during which Adam and Eve started to have children, who got children too and on and on... I agree also with the idea that Jesus accepted to give his life in sacrifice AFTER Adam sinned (1 Pe 1:20), which means that "the founding of the world" means the first humans after Adam and Eve's creation (which is related with Ep. 1:4). Before Adam and Eve had any posterity begotten, Jehovah had decided that some of their offsprings would make up the Seed foretold in Gen. 3:15.

Strictly speaking, OUR world was founded when Seth was born since Abel didn't have children and Cain's were wiped out during the Flood.

Ha Ha Ha, here’s a “scientific” article that will make you laugh out loud. A quote by one of the “scientists” ?) :
“The origin of life, at least on a planet like ours, is a lot faster, and you think a lot easier than anyone had imagined. To the extent that that is true, life ought to be abundant in the universe — because there are lots of Earth-like planets out there,” Schopf said. (J. William Schopf, a pioneering paleobiologist at the University of California at Los Angeles)

But, this statement in the same article, directly below it, refutes Mr. Schopf.
“This remains a matter of conjecture and philosophy, because no one has discovered a sign of extraterrestrial life. The early dates for the origin of life on Earth also could suggest that complex, multi-cellular life (including, perhaps, an intelligent and technological species) typically arises on a planet only after a very long period of evolution and diversification.”

In 2 Corinthians 4:4 it says in these three translations...

AV 2C 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

    YLT 2C 4:4 in whom the god of this age did blind the minds of the unbelieving, that there doth not shine forth to them the enlightening of the good news of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God;

NWT 2C 4:4 among whom the god of this system of things*+ has blinded the minds of the unbelievers,+ so that the illumination* of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God,+might not shine through.

This world, age, system of things is not the age, world or system of things that Jehovah God created when he created Adam and Eve. When he created them, it was his purpose that they not sin and go on living in perfection. But, when Adam and Eve sinned "that system, world, age ended. And all life would have ended for one thing.

That one thing was that Michael/Jesus came forward and agreed to ransom Adam along with all mankind. By agreeing to the ransom arrangement with God this present age, world, system of things got it's legal means to go on. Adam and Eve received a reprieve of their death sentence and were able to go on and have children. By that extension man could live long enough to see that ransom and put faith in Jesus and even live after dying.

So, the beginning of this world, age, system of things was when Michael/Jesus agreed to ransom Adam and all of mankind.

When you here someone talk about people in "the world", you are speaking of this system of things, age, world, not the entire universe that was created when space/time began.

I don't know if you can really say that "world" ended, but was rather put on pause for a minute. For as soon as the sin took place Jehovah instituted his solution to the sin at Gen 3:15. The sacred secret solved the problem, and the fact that it was created prior to creation(1 Cor 2:7) would mean that nothing ended but rather was always part of the plan in the first place. To say that it ended would be contrary to the scripture:

Ecclesiastes 3:14 . . .I have come to know that everything that the [true] God makes, it will prove to be to time indefinite. To it there is nothing to add and from it there is nothing to subtract. . .
