A testimony to the name of Jehovah.

I briefly mentioned that my godson was in prison do to his idioyosity! well everybody from all the other churches and study groups wished him well and said oh will pray for you. But my godson got to study with Jehovah's Witnesses in the jail cell and realized that it was the truth and began to testify throughout the prison. He called upon Jehovah and Jehovah sent one of his people to to buy him a lawyer and his sentence was substantially reduced.
Now he has a real life testimony then it is the one that calls upon the name of Jehovah that is the one that gets saved.

And remembering our Old Testament where Jehovah said I will save him because he knew my name! Who the son sets free is free indeed! And when Jehovah puts a smile on your face it's real! Amen tmp-cam-2109360513.jpg

    Exodus chapter 1

Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

    3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5 And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.

15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

    Exodus, chapter 2

    « previous chapter | next chapter »
Birth and Adoption of Moses.* of the house of Levi married a Levite woman,ab* daubed it with bitumen and pitch, and putting the child in it, placed it among the reeds on the bank of the Nile.* So the woman took the child and nursed him.* she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son.c She named him Moses; for she said, “I drew him out of the water.”

Moses’ Flight to Midian.d On one occasion, after Moses had grown up,* when he had gone out to his kinsmen and witnessed their forced labor, he saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his own kinsmen.* e There he sat down by a well.

    * he said to them, “How is it you have returned so soon today?”* delivered us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock!”* for he said, “I am a stranger residing in a foreign land.”f

The Burning Bush.gh with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.*

    * [2:1] Now a man: the chapter begins abruptly, without names for the man or woman (in contrast to the midwives of 1:15), who in 6:20 are identified as Amram and Jochebed.

    * [2:3] Basket: the same Hebrew word is used in Gn 6:14 and throughout the flood narrative for Noah’s ark, but nowhere else in the Bible. Here, however, the “ark” or “chest” was made of papyrus stalks. Presumably the allusion to Genesis is intentional. Just as Noah and his family were preserved safe from the threatening waters of the flood in the ark he built, so now Moses is preserved from the threatening waters of the Nile in the ark prepared by his mother. Among the reeds: the Hebrew noun for “reed” is overwhelmingly used in the phrase “Reed Sea,” traditionally translated “Red Sea.”

    * [2:9] And I will pay your wages: the idea that the child’s mother will be paid for nursing her child—and by Pharaoh’s own daughter—heightens the narrative’s irony.

    * [2:10] When the child grew: while v. 9 implies that the boy’s mother cared for him as long as he needed to be nursed (presumably, between two and four years), the same verb appears in v. 11 to describe the attainment of adulthood. And he became her son: Pharaoh’s daughter adopts Moses, thus adding to the irony of the account. The king of Egypt had ordered the killing of all the sons of the Hebrews, and one now becomes the son of his own daughter! Moses: in Hebrew, mosheh. There is a play on words here: Hebrew mosheh echoes meshithihu (“I drew him out”). However, the name Moses actually has nothing to do with that Hebrew verb, but is probably derived from Egyptian “beloved” or “has been born,” preserved in such Pharaonic names as Thutmoses (meaning approximately “Beloved of the god Thoth” or “The god Thoth is born, has given birth to [the child]”). The original meaning of Moses’ name was no longer remembered (if it was Egyptian, it may have contained an Egyptian divine element as well, perhaps the name of the Nile god Hapi), and a secondary explanation was derived from this story (or gave rise to it, if the drawing from the water of the Nile was intended to foreshadow the Israelites’ escape from Egypt through the Red Sea).

    * [2:11] After Moses had grown up: cf. 7:7, where Moses is said to be eighty years old at the time of his mission to Pharaoh. Striking: probably in the sense of “flogging”; in v. 12, however, the same verb is used in the sense of “killing.”

    * [2:15] Land of Midian: the territory under the control of a confederation made up, according to Nm 31:8, of five Midianite tribes. According to Gn 25:12, Midian was a son of Abraham by Keturah. In view of the extreme hostility in later periods between Israel and Midian (cf. Nm 31; Jgs 68), the relationship is striking, as is the account here in Exodus of good relations between Moses and no less than a Midianite priest.

    * [2:18] Reuel: also called Jethro. Cf. 3:1; 4:18; 18:1.

    * [2:19] An Egyptian: Moses was probably wearing Egyptian dress, or spoke Egyptian to Reuel’s daughters.

    * [2:22] Gershom: the name is explained unscientifically as if it came from the Hebrew word ger, “sojourner, resident alien,” and the Hebrew word sham, “there.” Stranger residing: Hebrew ger, one who seeks and finds shelter and a home away from his or her own people or land.

And then question for Exodus chapter 2. Why did Pharaoh order the death of the Hebrew children? How did Moses parents save him from death? And finally what happened to pharaoh and the land of Egypt because of what Pharaoh had done on that day? tmp-cam-1408744395.jpg

    Exodus chapter 3
    * Meanwhile Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. Leading the flock beyond the wilderness, he came to the mountain of God, Horeb.** appeared to him as fire flaming out of a bush.aWhen he looked, although the bush was on fire, it was not being consumed.b* he continued, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.c Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

The Call and Commission of Moses.* to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them up from that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.d* that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”* that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will serve God at this mountain.* Then he added: This is what you will tell the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.

this is my title for all generations.

The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has come to meet us. So now, let us go a three days’ journey in the wilderness to offer sacrifice to the LORD, our God.g I will even make the Egyptians so well-disposed toward this people that, when you go, you will not go empty-handed.* and for clothing, and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So you will plunder the Egyptians Moses_and_the_burning_bush.jpg

    Hi JIG

Pharaoh ordered the death of the Hebrew children - to kill the males - to prevent the Israelites from growing in number.

Moses' parents placed him in a watertight basket and sent him down the Nile River. He was found by Pharaoh's daughter.

The final plague - killing all of the Egyptian first-born - was retribution for the killing of the Hebrew children.

P.S. I will have to go look up what the tall golden pole is because I'm having a memory blank.:)

    Hi JIG,
“This guy”, if that is what we would call “Him”, also had a “spokesman” that talked to Moses. It was from the burning bush. “And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire from the middle of a thorn bush. And he looked, and behold, the thorn bush was burning with fire, and the thorn bush was not burned up!” ( Ex 3:2 LITV ) From other scriptures we find that Michael/Jesus/Lord was the spokesman for: Jehovah God/LORD/GOD. The Jewish people of today have adopted the ancient custom of not pronouncing His name, Jehovah. So, they replace it with Elohim. They also refer to Him as LORD, in written form of all capital letters. His name means: I Am Who I Am! Or, as some would prefer: I EXIST!

In English, it is, Jehovah. It is not yahwah, Yahovah, Lord God, or LORD GOD. It is pronounced Jah-ho-vah. Is that correct? Well, yes, it is. Why? Because that is how English speaking people pronounce it. Every name in the Bible is pronounced as they are spelled/spelt. How do we pronounce Jesus, Jeremiah, Judah, Jude, Ezekiel, etc? In the Hebrew language the “J” is actually a “Y”. But, in English and German it is spelled/spelt, and pronounced as a “J”, as in Jar. :)

    Exodus chapter 4

4 However, Moses answered: “But suppose they do not believe me and do not listen to my voice,+ for they will say, ‘Jehovah did not appear to you.’” 2 Then Jehovah said to him: “What is that in your hand?” He answered: “A rod.” 3 He said: “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent;+and Moses fled from it. 4 Jehovah now said to Moses: “Reach out your hand and seize it by the tail.” So he reached out and seized it, and it became a rod in his hand.5 God then said: “This is so that they may believe that Jehovah the God of their forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,+ has appeared to you.”+6 Jehovah said to him once more: “Put your hand, please, into the upper fold of your garment.” So he put his hand into the fold of his garment. When he drew it out, why, his hand was stricken with leprosy like snow!+ 7 Then he said: “Return your hand into the upper fold of your garment.” So he returned his hand into his garment. When he drew it out of the garment, it was restored like the rest of his flesh! 8 He said: “If they will not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, then they will certainly heed the next sign.+ 9 Still, even if they will not believe these two signs and refuse to listen to your voice, you will take some water from the Nile River and pour it out on the dry land, and the water that you take from the Nile will become blood on the dry land.”+10 Moses now said to Jehovah: “Pardon me, Jehovah, but I have never been a fluent speaker, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant, for I am slow of speech* and slow of tongue.”+ 11 Jehovah said to him: “Who made a mouth for man, or who makes them speechless, deaf, clear-sighted, or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah? 12 So go now, and I will be with you as you speak,*and I will teach you what you should say.”+ 13 But he said: “Pardon me, Jehovah, please send anyone whom you want to send.” 14 Then Jehovah’s anger blazed against Moses, and he said: “What about your brother Aaron+ the Levite? I know that he can speak very well. And he is now on his way here to meet you. When he sees you, his heart will rejoice.+15 So you must speak to him and put the words in his mouth,+ and I will be with you and him as you speak,+ and I will teach you men what to do. 16 He will speak for you to the people, and he will be your spokesman, and you will serve as God to him.*+ 17 And you will take this rod in your hand and perform the signs with it.”+18 So Moses went back to Jethʹro his father-in-law+ and said to him: “I want to go, please, and return to my brothers who are in Egypt to see whether they are still alive.” Jethʹro said to Moses: “Go in peace.”19 After that Jehovah said to Moses in Midʹi·an: “Go, return to Egypt, because all the men who were seeking to kill you*are dead.”+20 Then Moses took his wife and his sons and lifted them onto a donkey, and he started back to the land of Egypt. Moreover, Moses took the rod of the true God in his hand. 21 Then Jehovah said to Moses: “After you have returned to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharʹaoh all the miracles that I have empowered you to do.+ But I will allow his heart to become obstinate,+ and he will not send the people away.+ 22 You must say to Pharʹaoh, ‘This is what Jehovah says: “Israel is my son, my firstborn.+ 23 I say to you, Send my son away so that he may serve me. But if you refuse to send him away, I am going to kill your son, your firstborn.”’”+24 Now on the road at the lodging place, Jehovah+ met him and was seeking to put him to death.+ 25 Finally Zip·poʹrah+ took a flint* and circumcised her son and caused his foreskin to touch his feet and said: “It is because you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” 26 So He let him go. At that time she said, “a bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision.27 Then Jehovah said to Aaron: “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.”+ So he went and met him at the mountain of the true God+ and greeted him with a kiss. 28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of Jehovah, who had sent him,+and all the signs that He had commanded him to do.+ 29 After that Moses and Aaron went and gathered all the elders of the Israelites.+ 30 Aaron told them all the words that Jehovah had spoken to Moses, and he performed the signs+before the eyes of the people. 31 At this the people believed.+ When they heard that Jehovah had turned his attention to the Israelites+ and that he had seen their affliction,+ they bowed down and prostrated themselves.

    Exodus chapter 5.
[1] And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

[2] And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

[3] And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

[4] And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

[5] And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

[6] And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

[7] Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

[8] And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

[9] Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

[10] And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

[11] Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

[12] So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

[13] And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

[14] And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

[15] Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

[16] There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

[17] But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.

[18] Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

[19] And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

[20] And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

[21] And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

[22] And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

[23] For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
