Many people put their faith in his name, but Jesus did not entrust himself to them because their faith was based on the things they saw, the signs that he was performing. So, faith is not everything, it is what our faith is based on that is of importance.
Very good insight brother... Many in the Lord's day put faith in him because he fed them, and worked miracles, therefore they followed him in order to experience more of these things, yet he knew their hearts intimately. If you read the end of Jhn ch2, you see our Lord did not intrust himself on those who put faith in his name because of the miracles he was performing. He didn't need them to testify about him, because he knew man within. I wonder if he knew these ones would seek glory for themselves, that they would peach about his name only for what they physically could gain. It is a foreshadow of preaching in the world today. After all, that's why they were putting faith in the miracles he was performing, for their own personal gain.
Baruq, were not the signs Jesus did the base of evidence that he was the Christ and that we should believe him? John 10:37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not believe me.38 But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works,+ so that you may come to know and may continue knowing that the Father is in union with me and I am in union with the Father.”
It is my opinion Jesus was giving them a second chance. If they didn't believe him, then the works were second best.
