This Scripture gives the account of the words that Jehovah spoke through the prophet, Micaiah, regarding the defeat of Ahab at Ramoth-gilead. 1 Kings 22:19: “And he went on to say: “Therefore hear the word of Jehovah: I certainly see Jehovah sitting upon his throne and all the army of the heavens standing by him, to his right and to his left. Verse 20 – And Jehovah proceeded to say, 'Who will fool Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And this one began to say something like this, while that one was saying something like that. Verse 21 – Finally a spirit came out and stood before Jehovah and said, 'I myself shall fool him.' At that Jehovah said to him, 'By what means?' Verse 22 – To this he said, 'I shall go forth, and I shall certainly become a deceptive spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' So he said, 'You will fool him, and, what is more, you will come off the winner. Go out and do that way.'†I find this scripture interesting. Rather than just give a command to an angel and then send that angel on his way to deal with Ahab, Jehovah invited the angels to express themselves and to voice their own ideas, as to what would be the best strategy to use. It was an occasion where the angels had an opportunity to use the gift of free will. It is also additional proof that Jehovah, the Sovreign of the universe, is comfortable with delegating authority. The other interesting point of this scripture was the one spirit creature's idea to use Ahab's prophets to mislead him. We call them political advisers today. Kind of like the ones George W. Bush listened to about "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq.
