Sardis (Rev 3:1–6) Commendations: None strong; only “a few” who haven’t soiled their garments. Rebuke: Reputation of being alive, but actually dead. Works incomplete in God’s sight. Promise: White garments. Name not blotted out of the book of life. Confessed before the Father and angels. 6. Philadelphia (Rev 3:7–13) Commendations: Kept Christ’s word. Did not deny His name. Kept His word about patient endurance. Rebuke: None. Promise: Open door no one can shut. Kept from the hour of trial coming on the whole world. Made a pillar in God’s temple. Receive the name of God, the city, and Christ’s new name. 7. Laodicea (Rev 3:14–22) Commendations: None. Rebuke: Lukewarm: neither hot nor cold. Thinks it is rich, but actually wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, naked. Counsel: Buy refined gold, white garments, and eye salve from Christ. Be zealous and repent. Promise: Christ will come in and dine with those who open the door.
