There are fires presently scorching some places down there in eastern Australia and I want to express my sympathy for all those struck by such a calamity, all of the people who live there, our brothers and sisters and particularly Wallflower, JD, Thinking and Futureman...

I had news of Wallflower yesterday but my thoughts go out as well to our other friends.

I hope that everything is ok for them.

I'm posting a map of Australia because I never know where towns there are located when I'm told about them.

Just want to mention Sister Panda and Sister Billy as well.

Keeping all those affected by the fires, in my thoughts and prayers.

Regarding the map, the worst of the fires at the moment are located in the Blue Mountains area. This is located 50 km North-West of Sydney (capital of the State of New South Wales.) Look around the lower right hand corner of the map.

I just noticed a lake named "Lake Disappointment"... What a strange name !

    Reminds me of Marah :

"In time they came to Ma′rah, but they were not able to drink the water from Ma′rah because it was bitter. That is why he called its name Ma′rah. And the people began to murmur against Moses, saying: “What are we to drink?â€￾ Then he cried out to Jehovah. So Jehovah directed him to a tree, and he threw it into the water and the water became sweet." - Ex. 15:23-25

"And she would say to the women: “Do not call me Na′o·mi. Call me Ma′ra, for the Almighty has made it very bitter for me." - Ruth 1:20

To the north of Lake Disappointment (located in Western Australia) is the Great Sandy Desert. As a kid, this puzzled me because I couldn't see what made it different from the other Australian deserts. Didn't all deserts have sand?

The other desert that confused me was the Great Victoria Desert. It is located in South Australia (lower middle area of the map,) not in the State of Victoria (which is located in the lower right area of the map.

Made for some interesting geography lessons at the dinner table.

ok here but touch and go, one really has to really to listen to what they tell you to do, people are losing their homes, thankfully not a loss of lives, but one can be so thankful for all the hard work the fire fighters do, some brothers have had to evacuate, but none as I know have lost their homes and more importantly their lives...... the devestation to forests is unbelievable, the animals that suffer is just so sad.

Don't know about Billy haven't heard anything. Hope she is ok.

Makes one get mad as most of the fires were deliberatly lite, and the army were doing some sort of work in the mountains where the fire started, other regions were mainly caused by deliquents lighting fires, and one stupid person threw out a cigerate that cause major damage to peoples vehicales over a million dollars damage.

Thankfully we have not heard of any causualites of b/s, but its still pretty hard here as the smoke and those with resperatory problems are struggling also.

    love to you all.

    Hi Sister Panda

Glad to hear that you are ok. I've been following the news reports - heartbreaking scenes. I admire the work that the fire fighters do also. Stay safe.

There is a heatwave in the States of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. (South Australia is located in the lower middle area of the map. Victoria and New South Wales are located in the lower right area.)

There are fires burning in South Australia and Victoria. Keeping all those affected by the fires, in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes, I heard the news on several occasions on the TV. The Land Down Under is particularly affected this year.

I hope that everything is the best possible for everyone down there.

This post isn't about fires but I thought that I'd include it on this thread as it is about the Australian weather. Last week, cyclone Debbie (category 4) crossed the coast of the State of Queensland (that's on the eastern side of Australia.)

It was quite a big weather system and dumped heavy rainfall on most of the State of Queensland and also on the State of New South Wales. I heard on the weather forecast that the Tasman Sea (near the State of Tasmania) is receiving rainfall from the remnant of ex-cyclone Debbie. That means that this weather system followed almost the entire length of the eastern coast of Australia........Curl my hair!!!!!!

Many towns are experiencing flooding as the rainfall makes it way through the river systems.

My heart goes out to those who have been affected by the cyclone and the floods. Difficult situations.
