I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this movie - I never tire of it. Very moving. It is based on a true story of how a doctor helped a group of chronically ill patients who had all survived encephalitis (virus that affects the brain.) Thought that the actors played their roles well and in a realistic manner. Several moments where much is conveyed simply through facial expression, without words. Much humanity and compassion.
Well, I hear that the new Star Wars movie is coming. One thing I could never quite understand, was how Han Solo managed to understand Chewbacca the Wookiee. I understood the body language and the tone of the growls but that was about it. There used to be a TV serial shown in Australia in the 70's. It was called "Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo." The story line was about a young boy, Sonny, and his friendship with Skippy. Skippy was the hero in the show and he would let Sonny know when there was trouble happening. Kangaroos make a clicking sound - similar to the sound we make when we "click our tongue." Skippy makes the clicking sounds and cocks his head to the side. Sonny: "What's up, Skip?" Skippy: clicking Sonny: "What did you say? There's a fire on Farmer Joe's property!" Skippy: clicking Sonny: "What's that, Skip? The bridge is out as well......Oh no!! We gotta tell the wildlife ranger right away!" Being able to communicate with the animals is a gift.
Animals are amazing, and being able to "sense" what they are thinking is indeed a gift. It happens with my dog sometimes, an understanding. They are a gift from Jehovah, on both sides of the equation! Dogs (and others) love man.
Hi SingleCell I was being a bit facetious there, when talking about the movie animals. But in real life, I think that we can sense what the animals are thinking. I have heard a lot of experiences from dog owners who relate what you have described with your pet. I could relate a lot of stories about my observations of cat behaviour. The following story is about 2 cats that I used to have many years ago (they are not around anymore and have gone to "the Big Cat Basket" now.) I was hanging out laundry one morning. One of the cats was sitting on a tree branch watching me. He was what we call a "stirrer" - troublemaker - couldn't help himself. The second cat climbed the tree and sat on the branch next to him. The first cat quickly looked sideways at the second cat and then looked straight ahead. (Translation: "I wonder what would happen if I bit him in the shoulder?") Quick as lightning, the first cat turned and bit the second cat on the shoulder. The second cat never saw it coming. He fell off the branch and started swinging paws in the air. ("What the.......") I rushed to the tree and caught the cat. He looked at me with huge eyes. ("What happened there?") The first cat was now looking around as if nothing had happened. ("I know nothing.") I went to another tree and placed the second cat there, so he could sit in his own tree. Walked back to the first cat and said: "I saw what you did and I know what you're thinking, too. Just because I'm human doesn't mean I'm stupid altogether." The first cat looked down at me: ("Humans!")
Hello Wallflower. You have made me come back in the early 70's. I was watching Skippy on TV and appreciated it a lot. At the same time, there was a serial about a bear, gentle bear. I used to search on Internet some videos but I never found nothing. I was thinking that I was the only one who remembers that serial, at least here in Europe. O yes, there were 3 comics men in France who have made "Skippy le grand gourou" , but I think only Utuna here is able to understand the joke. It would be something like (Skippy the great guru).
