I didn't know this was in shout box, whatever that is. So, let's include it here in General Discussions.

"Man requires light. Whoever buries himself in the opposite of day feels his heart contract. When the eye sees black, the heart sees trouble." - Victor Hugo

"Hope in a child who has never known anything but despair is a sweet and touching thing." - Victor Hugo

"Until you value yourself, you won't value your time. Until you value your time, you won't do anything with it." - M. Scott Peck (*)

Morgan Scott Peck was an American psychiatrist and best selling author, best known for his first book, The Road Less Traveled, published in 1978.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Scott_Peck

Some interesting aspects of Peck’s ideas and writing are:
Grace, the powerful force originating outside human consciousness that nurtures spiritual growth in human beings.

    • nurture human life and spiritual growth
    • are incompletely understood by scientific thinking
    • are commonplace among humanity
    • originate outside conscious human will
He concludes that "the miracles described indicate that our growth as human beings is being assisted by a force other than our conscious will"

You may want to read the wikipedia article. It has some interesting concepts, especially about spiritual development. Then, you may want to check out his book,
The Road Less Traveled, from your local library.

(*) Not speaking about field service time! Then, come to think of it ... maybe he is! It does fit the situation.

    Thanks for the link Utuna.

    Agapé,

  10. finding truth

    Hi All:

I remember reading this one some time back but I don't remember who it is attributed to but it reads...

"The surest way to avoid finding the truth is the thinking that you already have it". I keep this in mind all the time!

An old Welsh pastor told once a young seminarian who was studying Greek :

If you know Hebrew, Greek and Latin, you shouldn't put them, like Pilate did, above Jesus' head but under his feet.

Yes, knowledge is a tool, not an end in itself.

There is an ancient Greek saying: "Whom the Gods wish to destroy, they blind first".

    -------------------------------------------------------

"Who is blind, if not my servant, and who is deaf as my messenger whom I send?
Who is blind as the one rewarded, or blind as the servant of Jehovah?
    " - Is42:19

"The greatest general is not the one who can defeat 100 armies in 100 battles. Rather, it is the one who can control things so well that the need to fight never arises."
    Sun Tzu
    -------------------------------------------------

Sun Tzu wrote, "If you know yourself and know your opponent, you will be victorious 100 battles out of 100 encounters." The civilian comes into a situation not understanding himself or his opponent, and is assured defeat. "Know Thyself" is a cardinal philosophy and the beginning of wisdom. The warrior knows his skills, weaknesses, values and priorities. He knows in advance what is worth fighting for and will never try to figure that out in the heat of a conflict. This knowledge is not inherited but must be gained through experience and participation. Knowing why you behave based on your values and thinking is the first basic step to self-knowledge.

    -------------------------------------------------

""If I were to lead the Three Armies of this state," I "would not take anyone who would try to wrestle a tiger with his bare hands and walk across a river [because there is not a boat]. If I take anyone, it would have to be someone who is wary when faced with a task and who is good at planning and capable of successful execution.""
    Tzu Lu

"We are grown up when we can beat dad at golf. We are an adult when we let him win."

    --------------------------------------------------------

Modesty is : " I can't do that so I'll let others do it instead".
Humility is : "I can do that but I'll let others do it instead".
