That one cracked me up so I decided to post it... lol "The trouble with being punctual is that nobody's there to appreciate it." - Franklin P. Jones.
"Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year." - Ritu Ghatourey
Is it what religion is all about ? Fear of incertitude ? Is it why the GB is so popular and so powerful ? This time around, the truth may well be in there !
I agree with Mulder People like being told what is what. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing! Jehovah tells us what is what - this is a part of our makeup. Unfortunately, in a wicked world, imperfect man tells us what to believe, and because this is part of our makeup we comply. Hence, our need to dedicate to the truth through the spirit! We have to love the truth to conquer these imperfect ideas being pushed on us from ALL directions.
A few weeks ago, I was driving back home from work and I was listening to a radio program talking about palliative treatments for cancer. One of the doctors who was interviewed quoted a man who had lost his beloved wife because of cancer : At first, I thought that the living were there to close the eyes of their dead loved ones but from the last days I spent with my wife, through her strength and courage, I learned that the dead could also open the eyes of the living ! She was dying and she taught me an unforgettable lesson about life !
Yes, absolutely ! Many people can't stand incertitude, and it's all the more so on religious grounds. I read once in a scientific magazine that if people wanted to convince others, they didn't necessarily need to have tenable and pertinent arguments. The most important thing in making people believe that you're right is the tone of your voice and an unbreakable conviction conveyed through your voice that what you say is the truth. Even if most of the people who listen to you don't believe in your spiel, if you demonstrate enough determination and faith in what you're talking about, many people will unconsciously start believing you or at least will start having "respect" for your beliefs. They will tell to themselves that even if they don't believe in everything you say, such a faith and boldness can't come out of the blue => There must be some nuggets of truth hidden somewhere... They may even give you the benefit of the doubt ! As you said, that's the way our brains and hearts work...
"In 'Changeling,' I tried to show something you'd never see nowadays - a kid sitting and looking at the radio. Just sitting in front of the radio and listening. Your mind does the rest." - Clint Eastwood
I could not find the person source for this one ...but among those things considered "platitudes" I liked it .. "The Tallest oak in the forest was once just a little nut that held its ground " ok these trees are not Oaks they are Sequoia's some of the tallest on earth Mark 8:24 (KJV) 24 And he looked up, and said, "I see men as trees, walking,"

"Ce n'est pas la crainte de la peine qui doit rendre l'homme bon, mais l'amour de la justice." - Antoine GOMBAUD, Chevalier de MERE That is not the fear of punishment that should make a man better, but his love for justice.
