There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. —Prov. 18:24.

Be a trustworthy friend. For example, we not only promise to help
our brothers and sisters in need but also do practical things to assist
them. (Matt. 5:37; Luke 16:10) When those who need help know that they
can depend on us, they are genuinely comforted. One sister explains
    why. She says,

“You do not have the added stress of wondering
whether the person who offered to help will be there on time to do what he promised.”

Those coping with a trial or disappointment often find comfort by confiding in
    a trusted friend.

But to be a trusted friend and confidant, we need to cultivate patience. When Zhanna’s husband left her, she found comfortnin sharing her feelings with close friends. “They patiently listened to me,” she says, “although I probablynsaid the same things over and over again.”

You too can prove to be a good friend by being a good listener.

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel will fail to receive a hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. — Mark 10:29-30 Berean Study Bible

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30will fail to receive many times more in this age—and in the age to come, eternal life.” —Luke 18:29-30 Berean Study Bible

This is my commandment, that YOU love one another just as I have loved YOU. No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul in behalf of his friends. YOU are my friends if YOU do what I am commanding YOU. I no longer call YOU slaves, because a slave does not know what his master does. But I have called YOU friends, because all the things I have heard from my Father I have made known to YOU. —John 15:12-15 New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures

Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy. —Proverbs 27:6 1899 Douay-Rheims Bible

You can trust a friend who corrects you, but kisses from an enemy are nothing but lies. —Proverbs 27:6 Contemporary English Friend

Friends mean well, even when they hurt you. But when an enemy puts his arm around your shoulder---watch out! —Proverbs 27:6 Good News Bible

Wounds made by a friend are intended to help, but an enemy's kisses are too much to bear. —Proverbs 27:6 God's Word
