That's amazing...!!! Here is the Earth seen by the space probe Cassini in the vicinity of Saturn : We're just a dot of matter in the middle of nowhere and yet, God loves us...
Yep ! There was an article about it in the magazine of astronomy I read each month. They say that the main reason why they wanna do it all is..... $$$$$$$ http://deepspaceindustries.com www.planetaryresources.com Well, the outcome on scientific grounds may be huge but money is what makes our planet go around, even when it comes to fundamental knowledge in general and to astronomical causes in particular...

Last February, I was talking to you all about a coming comet named Ison which would brightly illuminate our wintry nights (granted, Aussie land ain't gonna be wintry at all !!!) : Here is its path for October, November and December http://waitingforison.wordpress.com/october-2013/ http://waitingforison.wordpress.com/november-2013/ http://waitingforison.wordpress.com/december-2013/ Ison's trajectory : Why the chart above ? So you can check when you can see the comet in the following months with naked eyes : http://scully.cfa.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/returnprepeph.cgi?d=c&o=CK12S010 http://www.imcce.fr/fr/ephemerides/donnees/comets/FICH/EPHF0959.php According to the charts above, if human eyes can detect light around 6-6,5 in the countryside, then the comet will start being visible between November, the 3rd and November, the 11th, that is very soon and will remain so until about the second week of January 2014. Hope it helps !
I'm not very knowledgeable about astronomy but here in the Southern Hemisphere, I noticed that there is a very bright "star" (not twinkling) but it seems to be near the Scorpio constellation. Hopefully I'm getting my constellations right. Utuna, do you know what "star' I might be looking at? It doesn't seem to be matching the Ison Comet, from what you have posted here. Wallflower
Dear Wallflower, Ison is in the apparent vicinity of Mars lately. As for the star you can see, that's the evening star... Venus ! The geographic position chosen below is Melbourne, Australia. Planets only don't twinkle so it must be Venus.
"Is that a "streak" I can see on the window? I'll have to ask "Joe" to "shammy" the window properly next time he cleans the outside. ("shammy" means to "dry the window.") Ok.....I was just messin' around there Seriously speaking now, I think the view must be awe-inpiring!
