That suggests the identity of the lawless one may not be fully knowable before the apostasy. It may be revealed by the event itself. The present task, then, is not to force modern identifications. The global beast entering the abyss is not the final end of the beast. It rises again as the eighth king. The King of the North winning does not mean the fourth beast survives.
