The two witnesses are described as having specially abilities such as stopping the rain, or fire coming from their mouths, not unlike past fulfillment's in men such as Elijah stopping up the sky so no rain would fall, or fire coming down consuming his enemies, to the plagues of Egypt with Moses and Aaron as Gods spokesmen. So the question is, what should we really expect from the two witnesses in the time of the end? Although they represent the body of Christ as a whole just as Moses and Aaron represented the nation of Israel, they will still be two men commissioned by God. So what should we expect? Rev 3:5 "If anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths and consumes their enemies. If anyone should want to harm them, this is how he must be killed." So, does actual fire come out of their mouths? Rev 8:7 "The first one blew his trumpet. And there was hail and fire mingled with blood, and it was hurled to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green vegetation was burned up." It is their commission to prophecy the upcoming downfall of Jehovah's courtyard, and as well the woes upon the earth, that is their special powers, insight from the word. Eze 10:2 "Then he said to the man clothed in linen: “Enter between the wheelwork, under the cherubs, and fill both your hands with burning coals from between the cherubs and toss them over the city.” So he entered as I watched." Eze 10:6,7 "Then he commanded the man clothed in linen: “Take fire from between the wheelwork, from between the cherubs,” and he entered and stood beside the wheel. Then one of the cherubs stretched his hand out toward the fire that was between the cherubs. He took some and put it into both hands of the one clothed in linen, who now took it and went out." Their Job is to prophecy. Rev 11:6 "These have the authority to shut up the sky so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood." Rev 8:8 "The second angel blew his trumpet. And something like a great mountain burning with fire was hurled into the sea. And a third of the sea became blood; and a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were wrecked." Rev 16:3 "The second one poured out his bowl into the sea. And it became blood like that of a dead man, and every living creature died, yes, the things in the sea." Rev 11:3 "I will cause my two witnesses to prophesy for 1,260 days dressed in sackcloth.” With their connection to Joshua and Zerubbabel of Zechariah and the man dressed in linen in Eze, their prophesying is tied into the the stone with seven eyes before Joshua, representing the capstone of the word, bringing the fulfillment of law and prophets to the end time world. There will be no physical proof to the world of their commission, only the sign of Jonah will be seen. Their jobs are prophesying the fulfillment of what is already present in scripture...
I believe to the contrary two litteral witnesses will fulfill that prophecy, at least that is what I wish would happen.
Can you define brother? Do you mean to say you believe they are two individuals? I believe they are two individuals, representing the whole.
Oh sorry, I missunderstood first your statements. I did not read carefully what you wrote, so I agree actually with you on this point that the two witnesses are two real individuals.
Mth 27:51-53 "And look! the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two, from top to bottom, and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split. And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the holy ones who had fallen asleep were raised up (and people coming out from among the tombs after his being raised up entered into the holy city), and they became visible to many people." Rev 11:11-13 "After the three and a half days, spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell upon those who saw them. And they heard a loud voice from heaven say to them: “Come up here.” And they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies saw them. In that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; and 7,000 persons were killed by the earthquake, and the rest became frightened and gave glory to the God of heaven."
Then that would follow with the question, do I think the end will be within our lifetimes. You've read this scripture many times; Mth 24:36 "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father." You see, when our Lord spoke those words, his disciples would have understood what he meant, but the meaning has just been separated from his words over the years. Jesus was referring to Rosh Hashana, that day known as "the day no one knew the day or hour", because it took two witnesses to spot the new moon, and there were two days set apart in order to observe the new moon, and it's the fulfillment of that holiday Jesus was referring too. Although we may not know exactly when the end will come, the word has given us clues to time frames it can begin. The chronology of Daniel only lines up with the Jewish holidays yet to be fulfilled a few times in each century. In fact there are only three times in the next 50 years this will occur, and the end could be any one of them. The next cycle is in fact only a year and a half away. We have a clue to the two witnesses identity in their descriptions, and they do not begin their work until the end begins, but will they just be instantly given all their knowledge, or will they be chosen from his people just like all the other prophets in history? I think the answer to that is clear. In fact these ones are chosen before they are even born. (Eph 1:4) Do I believe they are alive now? We'll see when the end begins...
