The love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things.

    1 Tim. 6:10.

Materialism can cause us to become distracted and neglect our shield of faith. The apostle Paul said: “No man serving as a soldier involves himself in the commercial businesses of life, in order to gain the approval of the one who enrolled him.”

    (2 Tim. 2:4)

In fact, Roman soldiers were not allowed to get involved in any trade. Like good soldiers, we do not become distracted from our primary goal—gaining the approval of our Commanders, Jehovah and Christ. We view that as being more valuable than gaining anything Satan’s world has to offer. We make sure that we have the time and energy we need to serve Jehovah and to keep our shield of faith and the rest of our spiritual armor in good condition.

We must never let down our guard! Why? The apostle Paul warned that “those who are determined to be rich” will be “led astray from the faith.”1 Tim. 6:9, 10.

......."Do any of the Watch Tower Society’s officers or members make money from your extensive printing activities?

Emphatically, no! By law, the Society is a nonprofit corporation. There are no stockholders, no dividends, not even salaries. Each minister at headquarters, including the Society’s president and directors, has taken a legal vow of poverty.

He receives food, shelter, and necessary medical care, as well as a small reimbursement of money for out-of-pocket expenses. If a Witness travels on Society business, his travel expenses are usually covered.".....

    Poverty—The Situation Today

....."VICENTE* can often be seen pulling a heavily loaded cart through the streets of São Paulo, Brazil. He gathers cardboard, scrap metal, and plastic. When it begins to get dark, he places a layer of cardboard under his cart and lies down to sleep. He seems oblivious to the noise of cars and buses on the busy street where he spends the night. He once had a job, a home, and a family—but he lost them all. Now he ekes out a meager living on the street.

Unfortunately, millions of people worldwide, like Vicente, live in abject poverty. In developing nations, many are forced to live on the street or in shantytowns. Beggars—the lame, the blind, women nursing their babies—are a common sight. At traffic lights, children run between the stopped cars, trying to sell candies in hopes of getting a few coins."....

Enshrining something in law does not ensure its legitimacy or validity a person could draft an affidafit disavowing gravity but it wont prevent the affiant from falling over. In that case niether would signing a legal vow of honesty establish that a person was truthfull.

By the Watchtower's own standards of describing what poverty is for a 'watchtower officer' and people generally, is not the same thing. Even the term 'watchtower officer' makes a nonsense of it.

When do the poor hold title of office ?

Bethel should come clean and issue a redefinition of modesty, (an act of modesty in itself) instead of risk betraying the suffering of others with vainity.
