    Garth Brooks - The River

This isn’t the best recording, but it’s the best on Youtube.

Here is a song we've heard a lot here recently because of a new film, which makes us all walk down memory lane, and I love the music of it... I had never paid much attention to this song before lately but I really love it now that I have listened to it more closely.

"Belle" here is the name of the bitch and also an adjective which can be rendered into English as "very beautiful".

Modern version : I love Zaz's voice here in this version.

First version : (I love it even more)

    Belle

    Belle Belle
Tu es si belle You are so beautiful
Qu’en te voyant That at the sight of you
Je t’ai aimée I have loved you

    Belle Belle
Que j’aime tant Whom I love so much
Depuis longtemps Since so much time
Je t’attendais I was waiting for you

    Souviens-toi Remember
Du temps où tu venais The moments you used to come
Chaque soir pour me rencontrer Each evening to meet me
Tu passais You were coming by
Si belle que j’en rêvais So beautiful that I would dream of it
Tu le sais, mon amie You know it, my friend
    Je t’aimais I loved you

    Belle Belle
Ô ma si belle Oh, my so beautiful
Tu t’en allais You would run away
Sans m’écouter Not listening to me

    Belle Belle
Je t’attendrai I'll wait for you
Pendant longtemps For a long time
Tu es si belle You are so beautiful

    Belle Belle
Que j’aime tant Whom I love so much
Je t’attendrai I'll wait for you
En te rêvant Dreaming of you

Puis un jour And one day
Un jour tu passeras. One day, you'll come by.
Près de moi Close to me
    Ma Belle/belle My Belle/beautiful
    Tu viendras You will come

    Nous ferons We will make
Alors si tu le veux Then if you wish so
    Ce jour-là That very day
Le beau voyage à deux The beautiful journey together

    Belle Belle
Si tu le veux If you want it
Nous serons deux We'll be together
Nous serons deux We'll be together

    Belle Belle
Si tu le veux If you want it
Nous serons deux We'll be together
Nous serons deux We'll be together

What is Eternal? - Trans-Siberian Orchestra

    [BEETHOVEN]

    AND HERE IN THE NIGHT
    AS I FEEL THE INFERNO
    I STARE IN THE DARK
    THINKING WHAT IS ETERNAL

    THE MAN OR THE MOMENT
    THE ACT OR THE REASON
    THESE THOUGHTS FILL MY HEAD
    AS I CONTEMPLATE TREASON

    OF DREAMS I HAVE HAD
    AND DREAMS I HAVE PONDERED
    WHEN LATE IN THE NIGHT
    MY MIND IT WOULD WANDER

    TO THINGS I HAVE DONE
    AND THEN QUICKLY REGRETTED
    WHILE DENYING VICES
    MY LIFE HAD SELECTED

AND I THINK WHAT I'VE DONE
    OR HAVE YET TO BEGIN
    AND THE MAN I'VE BECOME
AND THE MAN THAT I'VE BEEN

    NOW CAUGHT IN A WALTZ
    WITH THE ETERNAL DANCER
    I'M COURTED BY DEATH
    BUT DEATH ISN'T THE ANSWER
    I SAY

    ALL I WAS
    MEANT TO BE
    COULD I
    SUDDENLY
    JUST DECIDE
    NOT A THOUGHT
    WOULD SURVIVE
    COULD IT BE
    MY LIFE'S WORTH
    ENDED THERE
    WITH MY BIRTH

    IF I COULD SEE SOMEONE
    WHO'S BEEN THERE BEFORE ME
    AND TRADED HIS SOUL
    FOR A MOMENT OF GLORY

    HIS PENANCE OR MERCY
    BY SPIRITS DEBATED
    WHILE JUDGED ON A SCALE
    THAT'S BEEN HEAVILY WEIGHTED

    AND WHAT HAVE I DONE
COULD THERE BE SUCH A SIN
    IN THIS MAN I'VE BECOME
IN THIS MAN THAT I'VE BEEN

    NOW CALLING TO GOD
    FROM THE PIT'S VERY BOTTOM
    I PRAY HE FORGIVES
    EVERY SIN I'VE FORGOTTEN
    THIS DAY

    (MUSICAL INTERLUDE)

    AND WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT
THAT MY FATE IT WOULD CONJURE
    THIS TWIST IN THE ROAD
    ON WHICH I HAVE WANDERED

    EACH VISION AND DREAM NOW
    COMPLETELY DISMEMBERED
    TO GIVE ONE'S WHOLE LIFE
    AND FIND NOTHING'S
    REMEMBERED

AND WHAT GOOD IS A LIFE
    THAT LEAVES NOTHING BEHIND
NOT A THOUGHT OR A DREAM
    THAT MIGHT ECHO IN TIME

    THE YEARS AND THE HOURS
    THE SECONDS AND MINUTES
    AND EVERYTHING THAT
MY LIFE HAS PLACED IN IT
    BETRAYED
    BETRAYED
    BETRAYED

    THE THINGS I HAVE DONE
    THE PLACES I'VE BEEN
    THE COST OF MY DREAMS
    THE WEIGHT OF MY SINS

    AND EVERYTHING THAT
    I'VE GATHERED IN LIFE
    COULD IT BE LOST
COULD IT BE LOST IN THIS
COULD IT BE LOST IN THIS
COULD IT BE LOST IN THIS

    NIGHT . . . .

I saw a film about "Belle et Sébastien" few years ago, I do not know if it's the one you're talking about. I hated it. It had nothing, but absolutely nothing to do with the book. The story takes place during the Second World War, at least 20 years before the original story, the place was not at all the same, and there was not a single passage that was taken from the books of Cécile Aubry. Now, one can make a movie about a boy and his dog, but if he's inventing a story, why does ha have to say that it's from a book? Why does he not make his own story, with his own characters?
Moreover, the actor who played César, I found him very bad, and he made me fell asleep when he spoke, there was no warmth in his voice, it would have seemed that he was simply read a text . I wonder where they found him, that one. Finally, many elements show that the director does not know anything about the mountain. I can tell it, because I grew on high montains.
Besides, just after I've seen the movie, I erased it from my computer, while usually I keep everything, even awful movies!

Here is an American Civil War song published in 1861, Music by George R. Poulton & Lyricist(s) W. W. Fosdick. The same melody/music was used in a No. 1 hit in 1956, by Elvis Presley, titled “Love Me Tender”.

Slim Whitman sings the original - Aura Lee

When the blackbird in the Spring,
    'On the willow tree,
Sat and rocked, I heard him sing,
    Singing Aura Lea.
    Aura Lea, Aura Lea,
    Maid with golden hair;
    Sunshine came along with thee,
    And swallows in the air.

    Chorus:
    Aura Lea, Aura Lea,
    Maid with golden hair;
    Sunshine came along with thee,
    And swallows in the air.

In thy blush the rose was born,
    Music, when you spake,
Through thine azure eye the morn,
    Sparkling seemed to break.
    Aura Lea, Aura Lea,
    Birds of crimson wing,
Never song have sung to me,
    As in that sweet spring.

    (Chorus)

Aura Lea! the bird may flee,
    The willow's golden hair
    Swing through winter fitfully,
    On the stormy air.
Yet if thy blue eyes I see,
    Gloom will soon depart;
For to me, sweet Aura Lea
    Is sunshine through the heart.

    Chorus)

    When the mistletoe was green,
    Midst the winter's snows,
Sunshine in thy face was seen,
    Kissing lips of rose.
    Aura Lea, Aura Lea,
    Take my golden ring;
Love and light return with thee,
    And swallows with the spring.

    (Chorus)

This is back in the day when songs could not be longer than 3 minutes.

Elvis Presley - Love Me Tender (Lyrics)

I bought an acoustic guitar recently -- this thread is helpful for finding song ideas to practice!

Old school country is growing on me; I used to "hate it"

This isn't country, but it's a good song, and simple chord structure similar to country.
    “Terry’s Song” by Bruce Springsteen.
The following site is pretty good for learning chord/fingering. Roll your cursor over the letter and it shows the guitar chord fingering.
    https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/bruce_springsteen/terrys_song_chords_587664

Here’s a good recording of the song.

    “Terry's Song - Lyrics”

Well they built the Titanic to be one of a kind, but many ships have ruled the seas
They built the Eiffel Tower to stand alone, but they could build another if they please
Taj Mahal, the pyramids of Egypt, are unique I suppose
But when they built you, brother, they broke the mold

Now the world is filled with many wonders under the passing sun
And sometimes something comes along and you know it's for sure the only one
The Mona Lisa, the David, the Sistine Chapel, Jesus, Mary, and Joe
And when they built you, brother, they broke the mold

When they built you, brother, they turned dust into gold
When they built you, brother, they broke the mold

They say you can't take it with you, but I think that they're wrong
'Cause all I know is I woke up this morning, and something big was gone
Gone into that dark ether where you're still young and hard and cold
Just like when they built you, brother, they broke the mold

    [harmonica bridge]

Now your death is upon us and we'll return your ashes to the earth
And I know you'll take comfort in knowing you've been roundly blessed and cursed
But love is a power greater than death, just like the songs and stories told
And when she built you, brother, she broke the mold

That attitude's a power stronger than death, alive and burning her stone cold
    When they built you, brother

    [harmonica bridge] :)

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" - Gordon Lightfoot

Here is information on the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Edmund_Fitzgerald

The Ojibwe name for the lake (Superior) is gichi-gami, meaning Great Sea. I won’t go into the language and history of these native peoples as it can get quite detailed. This area is where I grew up as a young child.

:) Which "beginning" is the true "beginning"? Or is the future "beginning" the true "beginning"??
